2017 Rolex Daytona Yellow Gold "John Mayer"
The Story
Released alongside the Cerachrom bezel-fitted, stainless steel Daytona models, 2016 also saw the introduction of another new Rolex Daytona in yellow gold, fitted with a brilliant green dial. Though at first overshadowed by the 116500LN, this never before produced configuration has grown to enjoy a similarly astounding demand, due in part to John Mayer’s seal of approval during an interview on his collection. Released alongside the Cerachrom bezel-fitted, stainless steel Daytona models, 2016 also saw the introduction of another new Rolex Daytona in yellow gold, fitted with a brilliant green dial. Though at first overshadowed by the reference 116500LN, this never before produced configuration has grown to enjoy a similarly astounding demand, due in part to John Mayer’s seal of approval during an interview while discussing his collection. Now referred to amongst some collectors as the “John Mayer Daytona,” the reference’s renown isn’t entirely a result of its celebrity association, but also due to its production in Rolex’s signature color. Just like the “Hulk” Submariner, 50th anniversary GMT Master II, and green Oyster Perpetual, its execution in green affords a quintessentially Rolex aesthetic, while still furthering the sports chronograph’s rich history and legacy beyond previous conceptions.
